We often feel that there are certain ask or commands of the LORD that are difficult to obey, but truly all that the LORD has asked of us are easy and are for our good.
Loving those who opposes you or hate you is one way to keep your heart free from bitterness and unforgiveness. As you know the love spoken of here is Agape – Meaning that you do good to those you hate you when it is in your power to do so. That you seek their well-being and act in ways that reflect the Christ in you towards them.
Christ Jesus is our living example of the nature of God and His character of love towards those who constitute themselves as enemies to you. There three specific things Jesus did that epitomizes loving those who hate you:
A. He forgave them irrespective of what they did or said. This is an example to follow and in doing so, you free yourself from bitterness and unforgiveness as when the power that unforgiveness has over those who are controlled by it.
B. He did right and good by them – by healing them and honoring God in their lives. He feed them and provided for them material things that was within His power and resources to do. By this Jesus created opportunity for change of heart in them and an opportunity to recognize the heart of Jesus Christ towards them.
C. He did not commit Himself to them – Jesus knew what was in man and He did not commit Himself to man – This is the balance necessary, loving is a command, Friendship is a choice.
Resolve to be the change you pray for. Shalom.
