Psalm 119:105 (KJV)
Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path
We all desire to walk securely in life, and it is something within us as humans to be conscious of where we are going and what we are in pursuit of life. It is God’s will that we don’t waste our life in pursuit of vanities nor in pursuit of unproductive ventures.
So, God in His love and kindness towards us gives us His Word as a road map and guide to life’s journey. As you well know, often even in natural life issues, we tend to miss it because we do fail to follow the road map or directions that are given to us as to how we will get to our destination. Even so, also with life’s destiny, we can miss it because we don’t follow through with God’s directions on life.
There are so many reasons why people don’t follow the road map of God — His Word. Let’s examine some of such reasons:
1- It doesn’t make sense to them. One of the consequences of the fall of mankind was the exhalation of self and reasoning above God. So, the natural man or person in whose heart the Holy Spirit does not rule, or lead is often pruned to rationalize the ways of God and if it does not make sense to him or her, then the likelihood of following through with it is not certain. Even with so many believers, we see the unwillingness to follow through with God’s Words because it does not make sense to them. However, the wisdom of God is foolishness to many.
2- They are unwilling to make the sacrifice necessary. Often the direction of God or the way God is leading you may require personal sacrifice. Such as self-denial, self-discipline, self-control and many are unwilling to commit to such demands for a character change or transformation. So, they get stuck in their ways. The result becomes that the word of God does not profit them at all.
3- They prefer to do it their way. Many do not follow through with the leading of God through His Word because they think they know better than God or they don’t see how God can be involved in their lives. For unto such they have become a god to themselves. So, nothing external of them has the right of leadership other than themselves. Such a disposition leads to a destructive end.
So, for the Word of God to be a lamp unto your feet and a light unto your path, you must be willing to allow the Word indeed to lead you. You must appreciate and value the counsel of God. You must accept the wisdom of God. And be willing to make the personal sacrifice that is needed in your life. Remember that you have the mandate to be fruitful and fruitful you are and must be if you abide in His word and His word abide in you. For you are blessed beyond the curse.
Shalom,
