1 John 3:18 (KJV)
My little children, let us not love in word, neither in tongue; but in deed and in truth.
I love you, I truly care for you. Words we truly desire to hear and often when spoken to us coveys the deepest emotions that someone has towards you. In as much as love or agape in the context here is more than an emotional disposition toward another person, agape conveys the highest good, intentions, actions, commitment, sacrifice, and deeds expressed or demonstrated toward another. It has no ulterior motives but for the simple reason that the giver of such love or agape possesses such nature within and desire to share it with others.
Love that is true and pure must of necessity carry with it, godly actions. It must carry with it thoughts and words that are sincere and that are empowering. You don’t truly love and at the same time, you are destroying the object of your love with your mouth. You don’t truly love and at the same time, you are not affectionate towards the person. You don’t truly love and at the same time you have continual anger, hatred, bitterness, and rage towards the same person or people whom you claim to love.
Deeds or actions of love are:
1. Genuine and true affection such as doing things that empower and promote the overall welfare of the person you love.
2. Engaging in activities with the person that helps promote his or her growth in all areas of life. Meaning that what you do in the name of love does not diminish the person in any way.
3. Speaking words that are wholesome to the person. Meaning you don’t destroy the person with your words.
4. Giving gifts that are truly from the heart.
5. Encouraging, empowering, cherishing, and nurturing the person spiritually, emotionally, physically and mentally. Love and deeds of love must touch positively all aspects of this person’s life.
When such love exists, growth will occur and fruitfulness will abound. This type of love ensures relational fruitfulness. It ensures healthy interpersonal relationships. It promotes family goodness and brings healing to everyone. Let’s remember that we are called to bear the fruit of love. Let us allow the Holy Spirit to produce in us this love. Let us be truly those who love in deeds and true acts.
You are commanded to be fruitful and fruitful you are. For the power of the curse has been broken.
Shalom,
Apostle Morgan.
